Breach of contract car purchase
Hope this is in the right place.
I attended a local large car dealer and selected a car which was located at another showroom of the same dealers. I paid Thea £250 holding deposit on this car and left with the understanding that I would arrange the appropriate finance £10000. The car was to be brought to the showroom within a matter of days. I arranged the finance on the day in question but heard nothing from the dealer. I phoned and was told that there was a problem with the car and it had been withdrawn from sale.
I then phoned the showroom where the car had been located and was advised that the car had been sold the day before. I then contacted the original sales rep who admitted that the car had actually been sold to another customer despite me having paid a deposit.
The dealership promised to source me a car. Three weeks later and the dealership have still not made me an offer other than offering to return my deposit.
Has anyone been in this situation and could advise of my rights.

They have a duty to you to return you to your original position, which they are trying to do by returning your deposit.Dwy galon, un dyhead,

Did you cancel the finance within the cancellation period? Or did it automatically cancel as the vehicle purchase fell through? Or is the finance still active?0

I cant see that there is any other outcome here other than you get your deposit back and move on. Theres no shortage of cars out there to buy, surely?
You could in theory buy another car identical then attempt to drag them through the courts for the difference in cost (if any), but i'd just take the refund of the deposit and look for another car.0
