  • I also know something more interesting about these machines which I don't want to say publicly.
Well just give us a clue . .

I bet it is something like if you drop some of the dog biscuits in the machine it counts each one as a £2 coin ;)

Must try it the next time I go to a branch :)

Pay the groceries via the self-service checkouts at your local supermarket?

    1. count it your self

I seem to remember many of these had a hopper you could drop handfuls of coins in when first installed. Lately I've only seen them with slots which you have to feed one coin at a time.

Perhaps this is to discourage paying in coins but does anyone know if any supermarkets still have th original type?

You know you have dragged up an old thread ?

I use the self scan checkouts for loose change, over a week or 2 I can get rid of it, depends how much I have.

It probably varies from branch to branch rather than chain to chain.

The hopper type are more prone to jamming than the single coin at a time slot type... less jamming means fewer staff needed to supervise the tills, even if the customers have to work harder.

  • Why the accusatory tone? 'I suppose you know you've defecated on my antique rug?' The thread isn't ancient and has lots of relevant information attached. Mind you, I'm sure you'll know best with that post count! :A
