Work have offered me a job, is it a demotion?

Sorry if this is not in the correct area. I work for a large IT provider and current role is Business Development Manager. The company is undergoing a huge transition and today the director of my area asked me to take a role he could envisage as Sales Lead, looking after internal sales team. Would you class this as below or equal to sales manager? Other teams have sales managers. I have told my manager previously I would like to manage people/teams. Am I getting to hung up on the title?

I think the job grades and pay bands might be a more objective indicator.

You have to otherwise you have no idea what the offer is.

You need to have clear objectives etc. as without those you have no idea is you can do the job.
