Hi
British gas quoted me 2600 for new combi boiler to be fitted.
Like for like and replace flue and a new electric socket.
On the day of installation they found out that they need to
change my 15 mm pipe to 24 mm.The pipe is from boiler to gas meter.they need extra for that
My question is since i agreed the quote do i need to pay.
when the engineer came around for the quote i have asked
him 3 to 4 times if pipe work needs to be changes, and he said no.
where do i stand(need extra 500 pounds)
Please any advise

First question is why did you go for British Gas?0
-
I wanted to get few quotes and pick the best one.
So started with British gas0 -
They are the kwik fit of the boiler world.
They quote low and then the extras start once they are halfway through the job.
Pretty standard stuff from them and unless the boiler needs 8 bar gas pressure which it doesnt they are talking absolute tosh about the 24mm.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
Have they actually started the job yet then. I would get rid and get someone else in.0

Well normally they quote high and then get even higher!
And if the combi boiler is larger than the original one, then very likely that the gas pipe needs upgrading - there shouldn't be more than 1mbar loss between meter and boiler. Easy to calculate before installing, likely that they only found out once they tried to commission the boiler.
And sometimes an old boiler system will still require a gas pipe upgrade, as it doesn't meet the 1mbar maximum loss requirement.0 -
hi
just found out that British gas quote is price guaranteed,
These are the wordings from the quote.
"your heating advisor has cafefully inspected your home to get your quote as fair and accurate as possible. That is why there will bo no hidden extra added later on-even if we do find extra work to do.with our quote,a fixed price really means a fixed price.
**excluding quote obtained on line**(I did not do it online)
Where do i stand now,do i have any case to argue
Any suggestion please0 -
There quotes are fixed price not estimates. Just tell them your not going to pay extra, you have a fixed price quote, they will not lose the job for the sake of a bit of 22/28mm copper, I’d be amazed if they don’t do it.0
