distance selling refund rights?

A retailer is refusing to refund my online purchase (well within the 14 day period) because the item was in the sale. Is this legal? Thanks.

Your transaction is covered by The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and The Consumer Rights Act 2015.

They are in the UK.

I sent them a reply saying that distance selling laws meant they had to accept my goods back and give me a refund. The Customer Services woman said, 'oh, you want to CANCEL your order'. Er, yes dear. That's what I meant when I said I wanted a refund.

This is a top end brand trying to wriggle out of its legal obligations. Not impressive.

That sounds more like it was a misunderstanding rather than a refusal to honour your rights.
