  • That depends on what you want to buy!

The Christmas markets in Germany are good for small gifts and Christmassy things, I like Berlin best. Spain is good for clothes, particulaly Mango and Zara, which are cheapest there. Italy is also good for clothes and shoes- Furla bags are also made there and Italy is the cheapest place to buy them. Prague is fairly cheap and good for gifty things and now has a few more proper shops too. France is OK, but more expensive than Spain. Budapest is beautiful but shopping wise seems to have gone up in price in the last few years. Istanbul has a bazzar where you can barter for a bargain!

Hope that hasn't confused you too much!

Would second all that rubia says. We went to Berlin just before last Christmas and enjoyed it so much that we went again in February :p . We enjoyed Prague very much just before Christmas 2005. Just hope that Budapest hasn't increased too much this year because we've never been but that's where we've booked for December 2007 :D
  • If you go to Spain and are anywhere near Gibraltar it is worth going there for cheap cigs and spirits but you have to come back through Spanish customs who can be fairly strict, so best just to bring your allowance back.

Also the good beauty houses like Estee Lauder are a third cheaper than UK prices, as is Lalique crystal which I go there regularly to buy.

Royal Doulton and Royal Crown Derby china are also good buys.
  • Barcelona no doubt! absolutely fantastic place to shop. I have been to Berlin, Prague, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Milan, Bergamo, Rome all great shopping places but NOTHING beats Barcelona for shopping. You can walk to everything, no need for underground unless its to get where your hotel is. I have been in Barcelona in the beginning of December and its nice and christmas decorated.
Enjoy your trip where ever it ends up.
  • Thanks for your feedback guys!Keep them coming!

Barcelona sounds like what im looking for, mainly clothing shopping and xmas pressies. also appealing is that most of the shops and such things are within walking distance as i don't really want to be driving abroad if possible.

all these experiences are much appreciated!

    thanks again
  • Barcelona is great and fab for shopping.

Peter, you will love Budapest, it is such a beautiful city. Prices aren't too expensive but have come more in line with the rest of Europe when they used to be really cheap.
