Hi all
Just after some advice really (please be nice!).
Me and my OH have been toying with the idea of buying our first home for the last few months but not really done anything about it seriously because I was waiting to start a new job and stop doing a very very lengthy commute.
We went to view a new build a couple of weekends ago which we loved. They are very few and far between where we are looking to buy. We have initially spoken to a mortgage advisor linked with the builder who has said that we could borrow the amount needed. We are also going to speak to someone else who is independent too.
We will be purchasing through Help to Buy scheme and have our 5% deposit. My OH has saved 10k and I have 5k which I’ve kindly been gifted plus about 1k in savings so we will use some of those monies for our deposit and also to furnish the property, pay fees etc etc.
I’ve also just started a new job (in the last 2 weeks) and moved home to live with relatives in order to be able to save more). I’m totally paranoid our mortgage application being rejected for this reason. I have a credit card with about £450 on it which I’m paying off and some months dip into my arranged overdraft £100.00 but I have been trying not to do this. I have had credit cards in the past which have been cleared. My OH earns a lot more than I do and doesn’t have any debt. What do you think our chances of securing a mortgage are? Will they take us into account as a pair rather than individuals? Will the fact he has been a lot better worth his money than me be taken into account? I’m so worried about the application being rejected and it being my fault!
Thanks
