Hotpoint dryer recall - advice

Looking for a bit of advice really. We had one of the hotpoint dryers that were recalled in 2015 due to the fire risk. We registered very early on and they just took out old one away and we had a new shiny one to replace it. No questions asked. Great! Fast forward to around 18 months later and I put the dryer on this morning to use, only to be met with a really bad burning smell coming from inside the drum after around 2 mins use. I immediately unplugged the machine and left it alone. I rang hotpoint who went through the repair spiel - ''its out of warranty and you will have to pay'' etc etc. I wasnt overly happy about this but thought i would talk it over with my husband later on. I have now been on the hotpoint website to see if anyone else had experienced this problem with a new machine - to find that my new machine (replaced by hotpoint) is actually on the recall list.... I am absolutely fuming. Would they have actually replaced my faulty machine, with a new one that had the same problem? I obviously didnt think to check it at the time of replacement, but putting my new model number and serial number into their website tells me '' do not use your machine and call immediately for an engineer''. What do i do? any idea what my options are? Thanks

I doubt very much if they would have done so intentionally and it was probably either a mistake or it's possible that the model you have now wasn't on the recall list at the time it was supplied to you.tinkerbobo wrote: »Would they have actually replaced my faulty machine, with a new one that had the same problem?
All you can do now it to contact Hotpoint again and explain exactly what has happened and take it from there.0 -
They may have replaced it with one off the recall list however it would have had the modification.
I take it you have been cleaning the filters as advised by the instructions and website?0 -
I would have thought that if it had been modified to make it safe then when entering the model number and serial number on the Hotpoint website shouldn't have brought up the ''do not use your machine and call immediately for an engineer'' warning.unforeseen wrote: »They may have replaced it with one off the recall list however it would have had the modification.
After all, surely Hotpoint must have a record of which machines have been modified and sold or given to consumers.0 -
Perhaps, but they surely won't be expecting people already with the modification to be checking the model and serial number on the website's list of "at risk" models.George_Michael wrote: »After all, surely Hotpoint must have a record of which machines have been modified and sold or given to consumers.
I doubt the OP has received a replacement machine which has not been both checked AND modified, but only Hotpoint can confirm this of course. No point guessing about it on the forum, therefore.0
