Sainsburys energy have been transferring my supply since the 1st June

Options
Hi,

I moved house on the 1st June and took my Sainsburys cheap energy tariff with me to the new property. However they still haven't managed to transfer the Gas over from the previous supplier, they don't say what the issue is but dates come and go. I have just received a letter telling me that i am entitled to contact the ombudsman, is it worth bothering?

They have told me they will pay the difference in price when its finally transferred.

Thanks

    Just to confirm

You signed up with the existing supplier at the new property first, and then initiated a switch to Sainsburys on the understanding they'd let you continue the tariff you'd had before?

There was a project to speed up gas transfers over the summer, project Nexus. I forget the exact dates, but any transfers requested during that time got put on hold until it was complete, leading to a backlog.

That backlog should have been cleared long ago but there may be some other reason yours slipped through the cracks. They mentioned the ombudsman because they're obliged to at this point. If you don't mind giving them longer as you shouldn't be out of pocket in the end. f they've agreed to pay the difference its probably less hassle, but if you do go to the ombudsman now or later, make sure that promise is mentioned so they get held to it.

Only you can decide whether or not you wish to pursue the resolution of your complaint via the ombudsman service.

But as the supplier appears to have failed to switch you withion 4 months of application, I'm not sure they ever will, particularly with the continual missing of promise dates and no explanation appears to have been given as to the reasons why.

If you complain to the OS, I feel sure (if the OS upholds your complaint in full as indicated here) they will find fault not only in the supplier switching you in a timely manner, but for not explaining to you the reasons for the ongoing delays and failing to resolve your complaint within the 8 weeks they are permitted.
In such case, I would expect a goodwill gesture being awarded to you (as well as a resolution to the complaint itself) - this would probably be in the region of about £50, so probably worth the effort for about 20 more minutes of your time at the most :)

Have you actually registered a formal complaint with Sainsbury's. You cant involve the Ombudsman until the supplier has been given eight weeks to investigate.

Just phoning up and asking what's going on isn't a formal complaint - you need to write or e-mail a proper complaint and get it registered as such by the supplier
