Opinions wanted - how to tell neighbours to shut their dogs up

You've got to wonder... I think it's probably that whilst the majority of owners are good/acceptable/passable - those who are not are more annoying and therefore more obvious to us. If I think about it, there are some wonderful dog owners in my town, and the majority I am happy to talk to and allow our dogs to interact/play as appropriate to the area. However, sadly what you end up remembering are the instances Out, Vile Jelly points to, which unfortunately I've also seen plenty of!


There is some fantastic information out there about how to best look after your dog, for the dog's sanity, owner's sanity, and society's sanity - however some people don't even consider that they are doing anything worth questioning, so they don't look for it and certainly never find it. OP's problem neighbour may well fall into this category.

The exact same thing happened to me in my house. This started about a year ago now, maybe longer. She has 2 dogs and same as you described, it was on and off all day but if someone walked past the house, they would bark. They would bark early morning and late night and at first, I was patient but it got out of hand as I work nights sometimes and so the dogs were waking me up when I was trying to sleep during the day. I went round to next doors house a few times and spoke face-to-face with her, in a polite manner. The barking would stop for a few days then continue as it used to. It got to the point where I actually had to call the council to sort this issue out and it took some time, but they did eventually sort it. I hear the dogs on an odd occasion but not half as bad as what they were.
I suggest at first being friendly and talking to them face-to-face but if they don't take what you're saying on board, then get the your local council involved.
