Esa & occupational pension

I receive contribution based ESA, of around £165 per fortnight. I also get HB & CT of around £30 pw. I get an occupational pension and my husband gets carers allowance.

He is shortly going to get his Occupational pension of around £2000 a year. I know that ESA is adjusted to take into account a percentage of the pension, can any one tell me the calculations they use, I read a while ago that it was 50% of a certain amount but can't find the exact figures.

If you receive an occupational or personal pension that pays more than £85 a week, your contributory ESA will be reduced by half of the amount over this limit.

That would apply to your OP only, CB ESA should not be affected by your partners income.

Does that mean I don't have to tell DWP about my husbands occupational pension as only mine is relevant. He will also be getting a lump sum of around £16k. I am assuming that it will affect HB & CT as there is more money coming in.

HB & CTs will be affected as this looks at total household income.

The lump sum may take you above the capital allowed to claim both HB (£16k) and CTs (check on your council website as CTs rules vary between LA).
