Low income

I have a friend who has to give up her current occupation due to having a accident and unable to carry on in the industry she works in. She has to completely start again as that's all shes worked in but it means starting again on a low income. Her salary could potentially drop as much as 15k a year. salary expectations starting out is 16k upwards. shes worried as she has 3 kids and bills to pay. is there anyway she can find out if she'll get benefits for her to manage?

  • This calculator lets her see what benefits she might get. Just put in estimated figures for what she might earn https://benefits-calculator.turn2us.org.uk/AboutYou

    how accurate/reliable are they?
It shows she will be entitled to just enough to live on until she gets experience/knowledge to apply for better paid work but needs to be pretty certain

They’re as accurate as the info you put in.

Or she could post details here and people can help further.

one option she has been offered is an apprentice scheme.
the details I only have is
    rent weekly £124.21
    council tax £156 month
    3 children
no childcare costs but no other income

benefit of an apprentice scheme is after a year of experience her salary could change to around 20k and more experience the better the money later years

Does she have a partner? If so what’s their hours and income?

What was her income for last tax year and what does she estimate for this tax year?

Maybe ask her to post here herself so she can give accurate details? As I said, the calculators are only as accurate as the figures you put in.

If you put ALL the correct info in the benefits calculator in post #2 then all the correct info will come up. I've just used it for myself to see just how accurate it is and it's spot on BUT as DS said "they're only as accurate as the info you put in" Try it.
