DRO - Aqua are saying that I owe more money?!

I had a DRO put in place in September 2014 and the yearly period ended in September 2015. Over the last couple of years I have been sending letters to the creditors who were still incorrectly showing as "defaulted" on my credit report. I hadn't received any responses until I got the Financial Ombudsman involved and now they have (mostly) been sorted.

I had Aqua on my list of debts for my DRO as £293.64.

Aqua (New Day) have replied to my complaint through the ombudsman and have stated -
  1. We can confirm it has been partially settled dated September 2015 (when my debt was discharged)
  2. The original default balance was £293.64 (this is correct and is what is showing on my credit report as outstanding)
  3. However the current outstanding balance on your account is £169.87 (not sure where this amount has magically appeared from)
  4. We are unable to amend the information recorded on your credit file as this is considered to be a true reflection

Could someone explain to me where the extra amount could have come from and why only the original £293.64 is showing as outstanding not £463.51 (if apparently I owed a further £169.87)

Help please - I want to know where I stand for when I contact them on Monday.

Thanks

Edit: Just to note, I have been a long time lurker on this board and the information on here has helped me immensely over the last three years.

    Hi,

You can speculate on that one all day and still not come up with an answer.

Best to just ask them to send you a statement of account which will detail all your transactions.

Once you have that statement, then you can determine a course of action.

Most likely explanation is the figure you gave for DRO purposes wasn't the full outstanding balance at that time.

Best advice currently is to ring every creditor you have, and obtain an up to date balance before finalizing your DRO, did you do that at the time, can you remember ?

At least if you do owe it, its not a Hugh amount of money.
