My dog normally eats dry food (James Wellbeloved), but I have in the past given him frozen wet dog food in kongs. I would like to start doing this again, when I take him on the Kings Cross to Newcastle train, to help keep him content and occupied during the long train journey.
But I noted that the wet tinned dog food manufacturers tend to say serve it at room temperature, and Butchers in particular say to defrost previously frozen dog food for consumption. Websites for kong filler suggestions repeatedly recommend frozen wet dog food, so does anyone think that there might be an issue with giving my dog frozen wet dog food (it would only be occasionally).

Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop

I know some people say peanut butter, but I am sure I read somewhere that it isn't good for dogs.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0

I think it is safe, but very high in calories, I sometimes use it just to plug the ends.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
AS your dog will be licking he frozen food it should be okay. The problem with feeding frozen food as a meal is the sudden cold into the stomach.
Peanut butter os suitable for dogs as long as you ensure it does not contain Xylitol ( a lot do) which is poisonous to dogs.
Cream cheese can also be used to smear round the inside of the kong and then fill with goodies.
Some people fill with bits of fruit and/or veg and some pain yoghurt and freeze.
There a re various recipes sites on Google0 -
I feed most of dog meals frozen solid and it's not a problem.
How big is your kong? For the L and XL size I buy frozen nuggets from I think Nature's Menu (something like that!) ... I can pop two into the kong and then I add some water and refreeze so it turns into a solid lump that takes some doing to get out. Patience is rewarded as it comes easier when it starts to defrost. For S and M size kongs, I use small frozen bits of trip which fit in nicely. Again, add water and refreeze! I also use peas, a bit of cottage cheese (VERY popular), etc ... always frozen!0
