Am I correct in thinking that powerline extenders have to be plugged into the device? Like an ethernet cable plugged into a laptop?
Powerline adaptors connect to routers/computers via ethernet cable or Wi-Fi (depending on what type they are).

Sorry, I meant how does the device connect to the adaptor? Ethernet cable? Which would be no good for my tablet....?

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I found this thread at the perfect time. My BT wi-fi extender gave up the ghost last night after less than 12 months. What a piece of cr*p that has been, constantly dropping, and showing "Too far" one minute and "Too close" the next. Now it doesn't show any lights except the Power light.

Here is my dilemma. I need wireless in the lower floor of my house (modem is on first floor). I currently have the wi-fi extender that as stated, is now dead.

I also have a D-Link set-up with a base unit and two adaptors (AV 500, discontinued) that only have ethernet (i.e., they don't send a wi-fi signal). I like having the ethernet extender for my home office because it gives stronger signal than wi-fi. The other is in the living room, and is plugged into the TV.

Does anyone know if there is a newer (wi-fi) D-Link extender that I can pair up with my old D-Link base unit? I can't find the original thread that Post #1 refers to, so sorry if that has the answer. ;-)

After a bit of research, it looks like I need to upgrade to a BT Smart Hub (no discount for existing customers, Grrrr) and a mini-hub. My Fire stick is simply unable to use the wi-fi signal direct from the modem (which is on the first floor, in the almost furthest spot it could possibly be). Constantly looking at the buffering circle of death.

It is 5 years since I bought and installed the D-Link extender kit (base unit and two extenders), so I guess it is time to upgrade. <<wallet sighs>>
