Car hit at back of my car

Hi,

Today I was just about to cross the round about signal and noticed the signal has gone red so had to stop bit quickly, then with in few seconds I got hit by a car from the back. I Stopped just after the stop line near the signal. I got down and had a word with other lady involved she gave me her number, name and car registration number and she disappeared.

I texted her and see whether she would pay for my damages which is just GBP 300 when I checked back at the garage. She doesn't want to talk to me.

So I called my insurance provider for a claim. They arranged a garage for a repair.

Have I done the right thing ?

It's not about the money for me but behaviour is suspicious so had to speak to insurance provider.

Yes you have done the correct thing.

The other driver is at fault

yeah, your duty bound to report any accident regardless of fault, her choice for ignoring you, she will end up paying more in premiums and excess instead of settling amicably.

Assuming she doesn't have a different version of the story and dashcam video.
  • Yes, I was thinking what if the driver who hit me lies for example she says the signal was green and I stopped. Because the way she spoke to me really looked like a dodgy driver. I am surprised to see they having an insurance.

Even if the signal was green she would be 100% at fault as she would have been driving too close. There are plenty of reasons for someone to stop at a green light such as an animal running across the road, an emergency vehicle coming across the other road etc

You still might find your still pay a higher premium on renewal as you have an accident regardless of fault

Insurance companies decide fault, not drivers...always gather as much evidence as possible at the scene and admit nothing !
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
