Bought item from retailer, over 6 months so say nothing to do with them....

I bought something from a online retailer. Bought with a credit card, all delivered ok.
It's now 9 months old and has gone faulty. I've tried all the recommendations etc, but still no good.
So I contacted the retailer who emailed back and said nothing to do with them now as over 6 months old and to contact the manufacturer. Is this correct? I thought was always 1 year at least with the retailer you bought from not the manufacturer?
I emailed back and they said nothing we can do they've tried to contact the manufacturer but closed currently and will try again on Mon.
Before I start a rant email,
is this correct? Is this what they should be doing?
I didn't realise it's have to do the chasing and was hoping to just bundle up and return for a repair or new one?
Thanks

Is it correct, well yes and no. The retailer is right about one thing and that's after six months you need to prove they are liable for the remedy, This means getting an expert report to prove the fault was inherent at time of manufacture. This means that until you prove they are liable they do not need to deal with you.
Going straight to manufacture under warranty cuts this part out and is often quicker anyway. but even though the contract is with the retailer they don't need to do anything at this stage.
Retailers don't offer warranties, that's the manufacture and shouldn't be confused with your statutory rights.0
