Please can I ask any experts on rail travel and fares what is the best way of doing this.
Son needs to get from Crewe to Euston and then from Euston to Heathrow.
Is he better buying the Euston to Heathrow section as a separate thing - and would this be 2 journeys - one going across and one coming back - can you buy returns?
The Crewe to Euston section is fairly easy - probably 2 singles will be cheaper. He is going down In December and coming back in January. The advanced ticket rates go on sale 12 weeks before so the January one is not showing yet.
He has a 16-25 rail pass.

By all means use it to search but don't buy the tickets through the train line. They charge a booking fee. Many other websites that don't charge a fee.0 -

As above don't buy from TrainLine.

Checking a sample date, a month ahead shows a split of journey at Euston to be cheaper (considerably so on some trains). Presumably, the search engine presumes that the Heathrow Express will be used when there are cheaper alternatives.
The fares vary a lot, so well worth checking carefully. (Lowest Crewe-London advance single is £9).0
