Laptop Recommendations

Not sure if I am okay to post this but I'm after laptop recommendations.....

I have a very top end of £600 to spend.

Only really needs to be powerful enough for internet surfing, video streaming and a bit of word processing.... BUT.... and it seems to be a big but it must have proper mouse buttons (or at least a responsive easy to use mouse pad). My last three laptops have all had track pads and I just can't get on with them! I find the pads themselves too sensitive and the mouse clicks near impossible!

As I said I've tried three laptops all of which I've hated, hardly used and ended up selling (at a loss) so I really want to take care to buy a machine I will actually like this time rather than wasting more money!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Spend a few pounds on a separate mouse.

I don't finding using a separate mouse very easy or practical when trying to use a laptop on my lap!
  • It may be called a laptop it's not mandatory to use it on your lap,cf lap dancer. Put it on something firm so that the air can circulate and the fluff etc from you clothes doesn't get sucked into the vents.

There is usually the option to configure the track pad and buttons to suit your preferences.

I have mine set very slow with all the multi-finger actions turned off. My wife has hers set lightning fast with all the bells and whistles turned on.

    I find her laptop unusable.

Then I'm not sure what it is that you're after, very few laptops come with anything other than a trackpad, the last one I had with anything else was an IBM Thinkpad with a trackpoint (in addition to a trackpad) that I never used because it was so difficult to control.

What I'm after is a laptop with a mouse pad and two separate click buttons to select rather than having to use the trackpad.

Absolutely any modern laptop will carry out those tasks with ease. Unless you want something larger than 15 inches, £400 would be enough.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Isn't that rather expensive? :)

Not quite sure what you're describing OP. Are you after a laptop with a standard touch pad that has physical/clickable buttons below rather than integrated touch sensitive buttons?

If the "mouse clicks" are impossible when using the touch pad have you actually tried adjusting the sensitivity and/or tapping in the correct area of the pad. Most people find these easy to use, particularly with the correct adjustment and practice. I assume you have no difficulty tapping the touch screen on your mobile?
