Part time working

I’m on ESA and if I manage to find part time work, that I can do within my capabilities and disabilities, would job centre force me to look for full time work?

If you get permission before starting it could be classed as 'permitted work'. You'd have to do less than 16 hours per week and earn less than the cut off which I think is somewhere in the region of £115-120 per week. You can do this for a year in the WRAG, or indefinitely if you're in the support group.

The jobcentre wouldn't force you to do anything, you'd still be on ESA and so nothing would change from whateve contact you have with them now.

Thanks, I am just thinking, if the hours are more than 16 or more money than allowed. Would the job centre force to do full time work (my capabilities and disabilities)?

You'd have to come off ESA. Depending where you live and other circumstances you might be able to claim tax credits or universal credit. If you were on tax credits you wouldn't have to look for full time work, but would get more from them if you could do more than 30 hours. I haven't a clue about universal credit.

Nobody can force you to work full time. But if you don’t work enough hours you won’t qualify for tax credits.

If you came off ESA to work, you would only need to work a minimum 16 hours per week for tax credits because you claimed ESA previously. This would qualify you for the disability element for WTC. If it's UC you'd have to claim then i'm afraid i have no idea about that.

I’m thinking if I manage to find part time work (off ESA), I don’t want job centre chasing me to find full time work. Do you have a link?

At the moment, I claim CB ESA, partner works under 10 hours, and we receive CTC and (HB / CT).
