Car recommendations!

Hello All

I wonder if you can recommend some car models to me?

My mum is looking for something small. She currently drives a Peugeot 107 which has died.

Her requirements are: Economical, £20 tax if possible, good all rounder, good reviews, five door.

She's looking for something two or three years old.

TIA
Maureen

    Budget ?

Don't fret about the tax bracket - that's a minor cost in the grand scheme of owning a car.

What do you mean by "good all rounder" ? She wants to tow occasionally ? She wants to fit 3 child seats in ? She goes off-road ?

Why 5-door ? Something like the Toyota Aygo, or it's Peugeot or Citroen clones may suffice ?

The Fiat Panda is often mentioned here as a decent car.

As above, the Honda Jazz gets rave reviews. But if you're looking at a 2-3 year old car, you're still going to be spending a fair chunk of money, so it makes sense to establish more clearly what you really want/need from a car.

    Golf, Focus?

Two of the best all round cars on the planet.
  • Skoda Fabia (get the estate if she wants a big boot)

Another vote for a Jazz, all those pensioners can't be wrong!

The other bonus is Honda dealers are generally well regarded.

My dad is on his second Jazz. I don't like it, but for what he needs it serves him well and both have been totally reliable, never developing mechanical faults.

Even after the warranty expired on his first one the dealer managed to get Honda to pay for niggly issues such as split door seals as he had FDSH.

Second call would be a Yaris. Good dealers and 5 year warranty.

Kia Picanto, zero tax, cheap insurance, cheap to buy (£8-12000 new) economical. Whats not to like.

  • Honda Jazz.

    Agreed (plus some added characters)
  • Hyundai i10
  • Cars registered after April 2017 are mostly taxed at £140/year. You pay less tax on small cars registered prior to April 17.

The VW Polo, Seat Ibiza and Skoda Fabia are all based on the same components. The Fabia is particularly popular and good value. Seat cars serviced by Seat dealers include 12 months Europe wide breakdown and recovery, making annual running costs a few quid cheaper if you use a breakdown service. Only available online, see:
    http://www.seat.co.uk/owners/your-seat/servicing-maintenance/fixed-price-servicing.html

Not sure if other manufacturers include such packages, oddly VW do not!
