Toto not accepting customers with British Gas Smartmeters...

Toto are refusing to swap BG smartmeters for their own meters. They will only swap non-smart BG meters, so BG must swap their meters to non-smart before Toto will swap to their Smart Meters... BG have raised a complaint on my behalf, but I'll still have to swap to a non-Toto tariff otherwise I'll automatically go on a higher BG tariff. Not so 'simples'!

Suppliers are under no obligation to change a smart meter just because you want a cheaper tariff. Most suppliers will however accept any consumer with a smart meter: you just have to read it and send in meter readings. You may not be able to avail youself of a supplier’s smart meter tariff. The Govt has directed that all SMETS1 meters are to be upgraded to connect to the central Data hub by 2020.

I wonder if they are refusing to accept any smart meter. They may have decided that the difficulty people have reading them ends up with them having too many complaints so it just isn't worth their while.
