Bought a faulty bike where do i stand
I bought a motorcycle on the 23/09/17. On my way home it was overheating, I called them and they told me to take it to a garage near me to get the problem diagnosed. The garage was unable to diagnose the problem.
The people I bought it from are likely to ask for me to bring it back so they can try and figure out what the problem is and fix it. However, they are very far away from me.
As the bike is faulty am I within my rights to tell them to come and pick the bike up?
I cant even ride it back there as it overheats. So for me to take it back to them I would need to hire a van and it would cost me a considerable amount of money, all because they sold me a faulty bike.
Thanks

New? Used? If used, what age?
Air cooled? Water cooled? If water cooled, is the fan coming on?
It was your choice to buy from a supplier far away - and returning it to them for any work is your responsibility.0 -
Used, 2005 reg.
Water cooled and yes the fan is working.
It was my choice to buy a bike from a supplier far away but it wasn't my choice to have a faulty cooling system and have to return it to them. If the bike was sold fit for purpose, then I wouldn't need to send it back.0 -

Consumer Rights Act caveats your rights with reasonable expectations for age, as well as for apparent condition and for relative price. Given that this has cropped up immediately you've collected the bike, though, there shouldn't be an issue proving the problem was present at the time of sale - and you're within the 30 days for a full refund should you reject the bike.Water cooled and yes the fan is working. It was my choice to buy a bike from a supplier far away but it wasn't my choice to have a faulty cooling system and have to return it to them. The garage are under no obligation to arrange collection of the bike.
You could speak to them and ask what they suggest, they may be able to get a decent price on transport if they regularly use this kind of service. I would still expect you would have to foot the (possibly smaller) bill.0 -
the garage I took it to are competent. Its a case of them not wanting to spend more than 1 hour labour as i don't have the go ahead from the dealer for them to carry out more work such as remove the radiator/thermostat to then try and pinpoint the problem.0

Even so - in an hour, they should have a bloody good idea what is/isn't going on.0 -
Are there any known cooling problems with the particular model you have?0
