Credit Card Charges Abroad

Hi everybody. I am visiting Florida soon on a family holiday and would like to use my Halifax One Credit card for general purchases whilst there. Can anyone tell me the true cost of commission fees/charges, if any, for me to do this as I can't see any reference to them in my Terms & Conditions. Does anyone have any hints or tips for alternatives?

You'll pay 2.95% commission on all your purchases. See the summary box, or section 5 (condition 5.3) of the current T&C's, on the Halifax website.

The Post Office and Nationwide credit cards do not make this commission charge.

For cash withdrawals, the Nationwide FlexAccount debit card is the way to go.
  • Get a PO credit card, I used one for the 2weeks I was in the US and im fairly happy that I owed pretty much what I spent... no nasty charges, did everything it said in the application blurb. Slightly awkward to pay though.. no online facility, no phone banking, can't pay through local PO only via your bank.
Apply through quidco and get £25 cash bonus too!

You can pay PO card in the PO, I always do and it seems to credit same day which was an advantage on one occasion! The exchange rate, certainly in Euro, seems to be better too, commercial not tourist, I think.

Yep, agree with this, my FlexAccount was great while abroad. No nasty charges, used my Barclay's to withdraw cash before and got stung £3.99 per transaction!
