Save money on Audio / Visual

Don't know whether this has been mentioned but......... If you are looking to buy an expensive laptop / TV / Camcorder...... then consider having a short break at the same time.

Dixons TAX Free are very amenable. At airports......they offer most of the Audio / Video appliances you find in a High Street Dixons store but the equivalent of VAT free.

You need to have a flight booking in order to get a boarding card .........but that doesn't need to cost very much at all. The flight checker will find the cheapest flights.

It is best to contact them in advance,at the airport you are departing from....... and they promise to do thier best to make sure the exact product you are after is available for you...... minus the equivalent of VAT.

I have contacted them questioning whether all air destinations (EU / none EU) are eligable for VAT free buying and they have clarified that no matter where you are travelling to...... VAT is not an issue. They simply discount the product the equivalent of UK VAT.

On an Apple Mac Book.... that is a lot of money..... even after a day in Dublin.

One final note....... They will also deliver or hold the product for collection when you get back.

  • Because the items have simply been discounted (by the equivalent of VAT)..... and VAT has actually been paid.......... then......if you are VAT registered ....... you are perfectly entitled to claim VAT back.

So the equivalent of DOUBLE VAT off for some business related transactions.
  • Would it be possible to book the cheapest flight you could find. check in, buy your duty free.... then decide you don't want to travel after all and just leave the airport (maybe after telling the airline so they dont keep shouting you) if this was possible it could be a great moneysaving loophole....:j :j

I have never found them to be any cheaper than online stores.
  • If they don't have an item in stock, they can (if they are feeling kind) send the item on to you after you have completed your trip. Dixons at Edinburgh Airport did this for me with a Video Ipod when they first came out. I only had to wait a few days for mine!
