any reason why you need decking on top of a patio? a patio is nicer IMO and lasts longer and doesn't have the slipping issues. If you want to build a raised bit I'm sure that could be done with paving instead.0

this is right, but the other thing I was going to say is we've also had a large area of indian sandstone laid. Looks fantastic, but it stains like a ****! I know you can seal it, but then in my mind it you are no better than having to oil decking. And from what I've read you are advised to wait anything from a few weeks to a year before applying sealer. By which time it is already stained.0 -
Thanks everyone, this has gave me lots to think about. I'm going to leave it till spring.
Someone in work was telling me about her grey composite decking, she brought in pictures. Fitted it themselves, and is really pleased and it looked great in the pictures too!
I'm concerned about raising slabs (it's only by maybe 10cm or so) as it would be against the house wall. At least with decking I could let it breathe.0
