First Utility Issue

Options
We moved house and had First Utility provide our Gas and Electric. It turns out that the serial number on our meter was wrong so our readings were disputed. In July they arranged to send out an engineer to to a check on the meter. This was done and the serial number changed but now they are saying they need opening reads from "the industry" before they can sort our account out as our usage is showing as 4 times as to what it actually is.
They then let me know when we moved an admin error their side lead to our details getting passed onto debt collection agencies!
4 months after they said there was an issue still no further forward, still our account is in dispute, still our usage is incorrect and they keep blaming "the industry" for delays in sending information?!

What can i do other than the ombudsman?!

Why not use the ombudsman service?
It's free (for you), and you are not obliged to accept any proposed resolution they come up with, but if you do accept such resolution the supplier is obligated to conform.

Moreover, it would seem the supplier admits there is an issue, and you just want them to implement the appropriate resolution asap. - the ombudsman will assist you in this.

If you don't accept the ombudsmans proposed resolution, then legal action is really your only other course of action open to you. However, a court will not look favourably on the case if you have fisrt not tried to resolve the matter out of court, e.g. by use of the ombudsman service if necessary.
