Ryanair cancel flight out but not return-do we get money back for both flights

Options
First off forgive me if this topic is already covered in here.
Daughter in a right state over this as she has booked flights with Ryanair. Just been told today by email that flight out is now cancelled but return flight is still on.
Do they get compensation for both flights as obviously they wont be in Poland as flight out is now cancelled. Having a look through various sites but as always thought I would ask here first, thanks for any help.

    So they've given ample notice. Any chance for a re-route?

    They may have flights from another airport that go there and may be able to re-route you.

    EU Regulation 261 (Passenger Rights)
    If your flight is cancelled or delayed more than 3 hours on arrival, EU Regulation 261 (Passenger Rights) provides the following options to customers:
    (a) Full Refund – we will provide a full refund of the unused flights in your booking.
(If you chose to make alternative transport arrangements i.e. car hire, trains, ferries etc. these are not covered under EU261 and therefore expense claims should be directed to your travel insurance company.
    or

    (b) *re-routing, on the next available flight to your final destination, or

    *If, you select option (b) - EU261 Regulation requires us to provide:

    I. meals and refreshments in reasonable relation to the waiting time;

    II. two telephone calls, fax messages or e-mails;

    III. reasonable hotel accommodation where a stay of one or more nights becomes necessary;

    IV. reasonable transport between the airport and place of accommodation (hotel or other).

    Customers who wish to submit a travel/transport/refreshments expense claim or EU261 disruption compensation following a flight cancellation or delay over 3 hours on arrival - Click here to access our online expenses claim form

 or click here to access our disruption compensation claim form

    ( c) re-routing, on a future flight, to your final destination at a later date

    at your convenience.

    Though I don't know about compensation, as the outbound flight is more than two weeks away.

    If she booked as a round trip she should be able to obtain a refund for the return sector given that the original outbound sector was cancelled.

    There is no EU261 financial compensation payment for the cancelled outbound as Ryanair have given more than 14 days notice.

    If she booked as two one way tickets then it is not so clear cut. Officially the unaffected return sector booked as a one way will still be valid. I suspect however that if she contacts Ryanair then they would cancel and refund the return sector as well given that they can't fly her out in the first place. Trying to reach Ryanair at the moment may however be frustrating.
  • Not really sure if it was return journey or two one way tickets. She has just been told that they can get a flight the day before so will need to find a hotel for a night before going to the hotel which is already booked

    I understood that low costs sell single tickets and not returns

    Ryanair, along with the likes of easyjet, do not sell return tickets they sell single sector tickets, so you have one ticket in and one ticket out not a return ticket
    Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right
  • Well kind of got a result. Ryanair have got them on a flight the day before they were originally due to go so they are on that one. They managed to get a budget hotel for one night then they will go to the hotel booked as planned. Not ideal as it adds to the cost of the break but suppose better than losing the hotel money.
    All's well that end's well I suppose.
