DIY maths mistakes

Whether it's cutting the glass too small for the frame or carefully measuring the space between shelves but not the width of the shelf itself - it seems that everyone has a story about measurement mistakes.
Sometimes it's converting from inches to centimetres that causes trouble, or maybe forgetting to move the decimal place.
If that sounds like you or someone you know (and let's face it, most of us have done it at some point), then brushing up on your numeracy skills could help you avoid costly mistakes in future.
On the National Numeracy Challenge, there's a whole section dedicated to shape, space and measures. So why not register for free, assess your current numeracy level, and use the learning resources to practise your skills before risking the DIY!
Are there any DIY maths mistakes that have cost you dear?
