Insurance Claims Database

Options
Hello

Does anyone know who owns the data and maintains the insurance claims database?

I have had home insurance cover with Swiftcover since 2013 and have made no claims. I decided to switch provider this year and tried to take out a policy with Admiral. When I tried to take out the policy online I was told to call their call centre. When I called the operator advised me they could not offer me insurance as they had checked my address details against their claims database and it showed two unsuccessful claims for storm damage in January 2015 and January 2016. These claims had been updated on the system by Royal Sun Alliance (who I have never used) and she gave me a policy number and telephone number relating to those claims.

I called Royal Sun Alliance (turned out to be More Than) and the person in the call centre there confirmed the claims related to someone with the same surname as me in a street about half a mile from my home. She was at a loss as to how this was confused with my address but when I asked her if she could check if my address had been updated on the claims database in error and remove it she couldn't as I was not their policy holder and she could not give me anymore information!!

So I am now in the position that there is inaccurate information held about me on some sort of shared insurance claims database and I am unable to ask the company who put it there to remove it. Also I will now have an unsuccessful application for house insurance to Admiral in my history somewhere.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be appreciated?

Thanks

p.s I went back to Swiftcover and accepted the renewal- turns out trying to switch to save 30 quid was more hassle than it was worth.

There isn't inaccurate info held about you. There is accurate information held about someone else and no reason RSA should remove it.

Admiral seem to have been a bit overenthusiastic about matching data. Just the same surname and a close postcode shouldn't cause a concern match. Fair enough if it also matched your date of birth for example.
