Car insurance renewal cheaper on comparison site - can I do this?
My renewal letter from esure is about £50 more than getting the same policy from the meerkat one. I could call esure and I'm sure they'd match it but the kats do this 2-4-1 cinema ticket thing. Would there be any issues with going with them instead of direct?

Is the renewal via Meerkats still as cheap once you have clicked through to the insurer's site? More often than not there are adjustments at that stage. In any event, buy your insurance via the cheapest route possible - as long as you end up with the cover that you require. If that cover is with your current insurer, you could ask your insurer direct to match/beat the price - if they won't over the phone then take it via the comparison site; there is no issue with doing this. I would be surprised if they don't at least match the price though, as this would mean they wouldn't be paying commission to the comparison site (just an internal cost they no doubt make for the cost of service via the call centre).
If you are after the two for one cinema tickets, buy your car insurance via the best price site you can. You can then go back to Meerkats to take out one day UK travel insurance. Costs a couple of quid. And yes, this route really does work (you can't claim the toy, but you can claim the movie deal).0 -
Should be no issue. My wife's insurer actually told her o the phone to go that route last renewal when their direct quote was about £150 more than the meerkats.
And the 'cats don't care, as long as you buy through them you get the offer.0 -
I did the comparison this year and it was miles cheaper for esure, so I got my renewal price matched, (which saves some form filling) all they needed to match it was the quote number.
I don't care about toys or cinema tickets though...I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

None at all, I did the same earlier in the year and not only was the quote cheaper but the excesses were less expensive as well.
Often the comparison sites have a 'quote number' shown somewhere on the results page against each supplier so if you feel happier then you could call the supplier direct, quote the number and they will be able to find this on their system as it remains valid for (I think) 30 days.0 -

No issues doing it this way to save some money but make sure you call Esure and tell them you won't be renewing first.
That's a good point as I think esure assumes 'continuous payment authority' on a card payment unless you tell them otherwise. Even if you stay with them, I would make sure your current policy number does not automatically renew.0
