Residents near schools near me are constantly complaining of the way parents drive and how near the school it is essential to park.
Problem is that it is a vicious circle. The more parents who drive (badly to drop off their children, the more others feel that they can't leave their children walk when there are bad drivers around endangering their own children.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. Seems to me that it isn't down to the school staff to stop selfish parents from being a danger to others. Bad driving should be dealt with by the traffic police issuing tickets or arresting them. A bad driver is a bad driver the fact that the bad driving is done in proximity to a school shouldn't make any difference they should get treated like any other bad driver who endangers life.0

I'm going to go off way here:
Get the traffic police and fine the selfish !!!!! who think their precious little darlings have legs - they can use them!!
Does not surprise me, people are lazy, e.g. those drop off and pick up points in supermarkets - this is 07:15, store just opened and one or two cars would park there - the car park is empty! I have a funny story about this that happened a months ago, I will come back tomorrow, it's late.0 -
I work flexible hours but to get to work I have to go past a school, normally my journey takes 12 minutes. I always make sure I don't do my work journey between 8:30 to 8:55, if I do I have to add on at least 15 minutes. Cars stop at bus stops, slip lanes, double park on the pavement, the grass verges, zebra crossing white lines. It's just not worth the hassle.
I know the school have tried so hard to stop these inconsiderate parents, but they don't think they mean them!0 -
Traffic wardens / police should be deployed only around schools from 7am to 9am and 3pm to 4pm and give zero "grace period" to anyone parking illegally. That should sort out the problem quite quickly.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230

I'm sure this was the discussion of another thread yesterday, wasn't it?
Anyway, there was an incident here recently of a disabled woman stopping outside her kids school to pick her little darlings up.
When one of the teachers asked her to move off the "SCHOOL - KEEP CLEAR" lines, she said "but I'm disabled" to which the teacher replied "maybe, but you're kids aren't!!"0 -
I live between 2 schools and my road becomes a nightmare in the mornings and afternoons.
It's not just all the extra traffic but the cars parking absolutely anywhere. Also sometimes a car will stop in the middle of the road to let a child out (older children) even though it holds up all the cars behind them.
A couple of years ago a girl got knocked down crossing my road between parked cars to get to one of the schools. She was not hurt but a lot of parents were in uproar that having to cross between parked cars was dangerous.
The council put in a yellow line across 6 properties which is in force 8am to 9am and 3pm to 4pm. So the residents all dutifully move their cars to leave the yellow lines free.
What happens? Yes parents come along and park on the yellow lines to then walk their little darlings to school. So the yellow lines have become parents personal parking spaces.
I have reported it endless times to the two schools and given registration numbers of the repeat offenders. The schools have put up notices, given out notes and asked in their monthly news sheets for parents not to park on the yellow lines but still they do.
I have been on to my local MP and a Councillor both of whom agreed that it is wrong and annoying for the residents. They both got on to the council who said it was not possible for the lines to be enforced!
They employ traffic wardens but I have only ever seen them in the centre of town.
So the council wasted money having the lines painted and then repainted when the road was resurfaced and yet they can't be enforced! What a jokeThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -

Crossing the road with my children outside the school gate. We stopped, looked up, mother in 4x4 stopped in the road talking to someone on the pavement.
We start to cross, she starts to roll down the hill, then accelerates - still not looking, I move myself and children out of the way as she looks up last second, about half a foot away from us.
Ye she got a quite a few strong words through the window. She shrugged.0
