I assume you mean immigration rather than customs?Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.0

To answer the question I don't think she would be refused just because she didn't have travel insurance (not sure if they even ask that), but obviously it would be advisable to have it to avoid the possibility of large medical and possible repatriation costs if she needed it.Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. yes sorry immigration !!0

she says to purchase it in Brazil costs around £700/800 !!0

She will be expected to have a return ticket, details of where she will be staying, what she will be doing, and how she will support herself while she is here i.e how much money she has available. if she is relying on your son supporting her he may be asked for proof a funds.
It is better to have information available when asked.
If she requires medical treatment other than emergency treatment she will be charged for it.0 -
thanks for the help ....any ideas as to where my son can purchase insurance for her here, so that its not the £700/800 it would cost her in Brazil?0

Most likely insurance bought here will be for uk residents only.0

You can't buy travel insurance in the country you're travelling in. She needs to buy it in her home country. She's unlikely to need it in order to clear immigration, but she would nevertheless be foolish not to have it.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

Check exactly what is covered.
Will they pay to repatriate a body for example or is it only to cover medical treatment in this country.0
