Venting unused chimney

Sorry this might get a bit waffley while I try to explain myself.
We are having the boiler removed from our kitchen and put outside but this is going to leave an unused flue in the inside corner of our kitchen. I understand that this needs to be ventilated. However we are also planning a new kitchen and had hoped to fit cupboard around the flue so it isn't visible. If I had an air brick at the bottom of the chimney and then a vent in the plinth at the bottom of the cabinet would that allow enough air flow or would it be blocked too much?
Hopefully that is clear enough? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cap the chimney externally and fit a small vent at the base. Don't bother with a vent in the plinth as there will be plenty of air circulating under the units. The last thing you want is a cold draught coming down the chimney and out through any vent in the plinth. Alternatively, use the chimney to vent an extractor if the layout would permit it.
As an aside - I have two chimneys capped and the corresponding fireplaces bricked up and no vents fitted. Not had any issues in the 40 years since it was done.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Thanks freebear that's helpful and the extractor idea is something we hadn't thought of. That could work well.0
