Three year old car

So my car is coming up to three years old. I have just spoken to Greehaus Renault and they want £299 for a "major service". This is something I simply cannot afford at the moment!
As part of my terms I need to keep the FSH going. My question is do I need to take it there to have it done to keep the FSH going or can I take it to another garage to get the stamp?
I should add that there will be no warranty after 1st October either.
Thanks

What does your hire agreement say? Some demand a main dealer services the car whilst some can be any vat registered garage so long as they service to manufacturers specifications.
Have you tried calling other franchises for a quote?0 -
It will need to be done to the standard of a Renault service. That means it will need to use genuine parts and fluids to the recommended spec and everything that is done in the main dealer service would need to be done as well. So even though a garage may offer its own main service for say £150 you cannot use that as they won't use genuine parts and won't do everything that would be in the Renault service schedule. You'll maybe save a bit on labour, around £30/£50, however if there have been things like software updates these wouldn't get applied by a third party, same story if there have been any service recalls.
If you can't afford a £299 service can you really afford to be running a car? Keeping a car serviced isn't just about stopping it breaking down, it is about safety too. Also 3 years old won't it be due its first MOT?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Try another main dealer, see if they'll offer a discount.
Get soem quotes from other garages and use them to haggle the price down, it's worked for me before.0 -
Doesn't have to be genuine parts - just to the same quality. EG Renault don't make third own oil filters - just have their name put on the box.
Having said that, it's worth paying a bit extra for genuine parts to avoid any issues down the line with any warranty/goodwill claim0
