Pet Insurance excess issue

Hi

My pet insurance company have just realised they should have been taking 20% excess on my monthly claims since December 2016 and suddenly took the whole amount owed off my one claim! They did this without warning me or explaining their error. Are they allowed to do this? I would have thought they should a) apologise and b) allow me to pay what is owed at an instalment rate affordable to me. Can anyone please advise?

If you owed the money there's not a lot you can do about them giving you an interest free loan!

Yes, if you read their terms and conditions it probably allows them to do this.
Since they aren't taking your money, they are deducting it from a claim, affordability wouldn't come into it.

Your best bet is to make a formal complaint and hope they give you a 'good will gesture'
