Download an App

Hi I need to download an app to use on my Nokia Windows phone. However, this app (like most other apps) is only downloadable from either the app store or google store. If I download the app from one of these stores, would it be compatible with my phone. I tried searching for the app from the store on my phone, but nothing comes up. I hope I don't have to replace my phone.

Contact the app developer and install it manually. But if it wont run on your phone then the only option is to replace the phone.

Maybe a good time to offload it before nothing works on it.

What is the app and does it have a version for windows mobile .If so it should be available via your phones store .
Apps are built for platforms rather than being a universal fit .

Google store is for Android phones .
The apps store do you mean MS windows app store ??

As per above, NO app from Google's Play Store or Apple's App Store will work on a Windows phone. You'd need to get the app (if it exists) from Windows Store.

You can find Windows Store (if it's not pinned to the home screen) by swiping left then scrolling down to Store and selecting it.
  • Thank you all for taking the time to explain. I'm changing my home insurance and I'm doing it through comparethemarket. They have an app which allows you to get the code for the 241 cinema tickets, but the download links are only google and apple. No windows version. I've noticed this with many other providers such as SKY - the VIP app is not available for windows phone. For some reason, windows phones are being left behind - probably time to get a new phone. Pity, as I do like my Lumia phone.

  • The reason Windows phones are being left behind is, even Microsoft are dumping them.
  • I like Windows Phone as an operating system, and do have one.

But it's in the vicious circle of:
    1. Developers don't write apps for them because few people have Windows Phone handsets
    2. Few people buy the handsets because there aren't many apps available. Goto 1

So I'm afraid the writing is on the wall for them.
