Is there anything we are missing?

Morning

My husband has had an injury which has restricted him working, he is 51 and is waiting to hear back from PIP.

What else would him/we be entitled to?

I currently receive carers allowance and tax credits, and we get a portion of housing benefit and council tax benefit. I receive carers for our son.

Any help if info is appreciated

Thank you

More info is needed to be able to help you. Did your husband used to work?
Do you recieve Income Support as well as Carers Allowance?
  • He was a director or a limited company, he still is but looking into ending it as he in not even getting £200 a week.

    No to income support
  • Is the company paying him SSP?

This same question has been asked a few months ago by the same person.

Your questions were answered back in May. The answers aren't going to be any different now especially if your circumstances are still the same.
  • If your husband stopped working then you can make a claim for Income Support as you are receiving CA. Your husband can be added to your claim. But Income Support is a means tested benefit so is affected by income and savings.

Since you are already claiming some HB and CT reduction then I have to presume that you do not have a large company and lots of savings.

Your husband needs to decide whether he can continue to do some kind of work, close his company (is he a one man company?) and go onto benefits.
  • Unfortunately the ESA Criteria would also be difficult to achieve for the injuries you described in your May post.
    See: http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/employment-and-support-allowance/start-the-esa-test

One possibility might be for you to claim Income Support as a couple (since you are a carer).

The CAB could advise further. This is a means-tested benefit. so would provide a base level of income should your husband not be able to earn.

Is there any other work your husband could do?
    Or could you swap roles?

    Slight correction there.

My Advice to OP & Husband

OP should -when husband stops working- claim Income Support (or UC if in a UC area),

Husband should claim ESA Conts or ESA Conts New Style (depending if you are in a UC area or not. 08000 556688 (choose claim for sickness) will be able to tell him. Can only claim ESA when SSP has finished.

Does not matter if will or will not pass ESA, only matter that he can get a sick note from a doctor. If he can't then forget ESA.
