I haven't spoken to student union or welfare yet. I will certainly make a point of getting intouch with either very soon.
As for transferring or waiting a yr.. to be honest I can accept either. I just really don't want to have to re-apply again especially since I'm already at the Uni and was accepted onto the degree programme I'm on at the moment.
I have sent an email provisionally to the combined degree department asking about their entry requirements ect, so waiting on their reply. I'm going into uni tomorrow to check the prospectus and try and see who else I can speak to.
Yes I agree, you would think they wouldn't want to loose a student, but hey we can always get surprised!0 -
I would not rely on email, I would turn up in person if at all possible. They can miss an email, or ignore it, but if you're standing in front of someone it's harder to be ignored ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

It is best to leave or transfer courses, now you might be able to transfer out after year 1, however, I know that staying on a course you don't like takes your confidence and only makes you feel awful.:beer:0

Had an email from the combined honours department, unfortunatly I can't transfer onto a combined degree, they have advised that I re-apply next year.
I have emailed another department and am asking them about a possible transfer. I have got a possibility for a transfer, not too sure about it but I'm making enquires as to the course content.
I think it's looking as if I'll be re-applying next year, not the ideal option.
As student phil says, it's no good sticking out a course if ya not enjoying it.0 -
Well, we certainly don't want you turning into another studentphil ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

I must admit this searching ect is really stressful.
Yes, I didn't like my course and it made me very unhappy and the fact I have now finished it means I am so much happier.:beer:0 -
If you wait til after reading week then there might be some places on the course you want to do? I'd also recommend seeing a uni councillor as, from my experience, they tend to know how to do things!
Hope you get it worked out in the end,

I've now contacted variety of course options both at my present uni and one other and all are saying the same thing, they have their quota of students for this year, so I would need to re-apply next year.
I do have an immediate option of transfering to an Applied Psychology degree programme. I'm interested, however, due to all the upheaval ect.. already I'm reluctant to commit myself and I'm concerned if I don't take this option that i won't get accepted next yearwhat a quandry.

It can be frustrating...i was in a similar situation in 2005. Started social policy as an alternative to social work which was what i applied for, but i absolutely hated it. There was no way i could sit through those lectures for 3 years, so i decided it was best to leave and reapply. I have just started my 2nd year in social work at a different uni and im so glad i left. Not being with the course you're on makes it 100x harder to remain focused and motivated. I have also learnt that when unis offer alternatives its usually just to fill places on that course, rather than them thinking you're more suited to doin that course so beware!0
