Renewing passport with 2 years left?

As the title suggests, can you renew a passport with 2 years left? The reason why i ask, I travel extensively within South East Asia and my current passport is nearly full.

Idle curiosity made me search, but I can't find the thread.

Please share the link pogofish. Thank you :)

Up to nine months can be added to the ten year validity from the new passport's issue date, if you renew early. So I guess you will 'lose' 15 months' worth if you renew two years before expiry date.

You can continue to let immigration officers squeeze in more stamps until it becomes impossible. You can renew 'in country' if you have a verifiable address in that country. In SE Asia an HMPO agent will process it and receive the new one by courier, at your expense, for your collection, about ten days (although they say up to thirty days).

If you don't already take a 'jumbo' 48-page passport, paying the extra for it will be worth it in your case. There's a box to tick on the form.

  • Thanks for the replies, I don't mind losing 15 months, it's much of a less hassle if I apply in the UK than abroad.
