Well it was £76,000 - but fees took that up to £76,999. Then interest on top of that...

Twenty five years nominally, but I wouldn't be here if I was happy with that.

Initially to stooze my ISAs into the offset using the fact they're flexible to cut down my interest charge. Though it's not much, it's better in my pocket, and my mortgage charges more than my ISAs give.

Hammer my FD regular saver every year as it's 5%. Hammer my Leeds RS as although it's only 2.3%, it's open ended to a maximum of £6,000.

I now have the space to bulk buy which should cut down on regular expenses. I also have the space to batch cook.

Live like a hermit, just not as shellfish...

Is that planny enough for you? ;)

What about your utility bills, Z, how are you doing, do you need more insulation (in the walls!)?

Are you plotting to do bits and bobs like use your mobile for surveys and games, and get an extra £100 a month or so?

I have a big one (deposit etc). Besides, this is the grim & blighted/blasted/barren (*delete as applicable) North East, so houses are cheaper here.

PM me if you want a Rightmove linky.

I've gone with a 18 month fix for electricity, but should buy some oil soon once I figure out how much I actually use. Nope...never had oil before - before anyone asks.

Probably need to get get insulation for the flat roof part of the property. I'll probably get that done when I get the flat roof refelted - it won't last forever. I may also get a thermosolar collector at the same time to make the oil stretch further. Photoelectric cells are much further off into the future at least after I get my mortgage netted off, and possibly never if the sums don't add up.

This intrigues me... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ka0MfipmdBw - yes I do know how it works, but no, I'm not qualified. The supply is a third of the cost but I believe the round-trip efficiency will be 80-90%.

Because of various reasons, I'm very time poor, and things like that aren't high value to me. I find a small investment in time on Mysupermarket and hotukdeals, and bulk buying/batch cooking can net a £100 pcm saving over several months. I must get back into that properly.

Thats a good idea, to get a bigger house than the very basic, for your own space, as potential income, for solidity of construction, all sorts. And I'd love a rightmove linky, if that would be okay

I have a few little solar bits and gadgets, but no big system, which is ridiculous of me :o and I'd not even heard the term "thermosolar collector" :o When these next building works are done, but before the replastering, I'll find out :)

He's wonderful! I love that guy :) The UK is full of ingenious people like this. I'll definitely be giving some thought to this, I have backup for cooking in the event of a powercut (camping stoves!) but not much else.

Yep, we can only do so much. OTOH, I'd have expected you to invent a machine that could stretch a minute to become an hour, so that you could do what you needed to do :D
