  • There's plenty of parking at Seathwaite and Wasdale Head, but very little at Brotherilkeld. From Seathwaite, via Taylorgill force and Styhead is as good as any, with Grains Gill for an alternative descent. From Sty head you can take either the Corridor route or go via Esk Hause.
If you go from Wasdale Head the Piers Ghyll route is very good.

Seathwaite will be a lot closer; Wasdale is about a 90 minute drive from Grasmere.

I've climbed it from Wasdale as the walking round trip is only 6 miles, as opposed to 9.5 miles from Seathwaite

In that case your nearest route would be to park at the Old Dungeon Ghyll, and go via Mickleden, Rossett Gill, Angle Tarn & Esk Hause.
(RG will warm you up, but if you want a better graded climb look for the old packhorse road that nobody uses. It's the bridleway shown on the map that zigzags away from the gill.)

If you want another really good day out from Langdale, try this (again from the ODG):
Oxendale, Browney Gill, Pike O'Bliscoe, Cold Pike, Crinkle Crags, Bowfell, Esk Pike, Great End, then return via Angle tarn, Rossett Gill and Mickleden. Magic!

If you're staying in Grasmere, the Fairfield Horseshoe is right on your doorstep, too.
  • Depending on what type of route you want and if you fancy a bit of scrambling there is a great route i have done.

Start at Seathwaite go to sprinkling tarn
there you look left and climb to Great End ( this is the scramble)
The across Broad Crag to Scafell Pike
Route back over Ill crag to Esk Hause then onwards to sprinkling crag back to Seathwaite

If you want GPX file let me know
