And do you include the likes of Glass's and Parkers in that assessment?
So if you were to buy the Mazda I saw for sale in Cardiff that had done fewer than 2,000 miles in 4 years, and then it broke down would you blame the marketplace for the condition of the car.
Mileage is a red herring. There's much more than market value to whether a car will be reliable or not. "Low Mileage" is enough for salesmen to get tyre kickers who know little or nothing about cars that come by themselves without someone who does know something to part with their hard-earned cash.
I'd rather buy something that was above average mileage that had been regularly service to schedule and had been looked after than a car that has done way below average that wasn't shown too much love. The former will generally be more reliable.
Just because the market thinks something is good, doesn't make it true.0 -

I have a MX5 as a weekend car. In the year prior to me buying it and the first year I owned it it did around 2000 miles a year. For the MOT the dealership put on it to sell it it needed rear brake calipers as they'd seized. I ended up doing the front brake calipers the following summer as they'd seized from lack of use over winter. The thermostat also packed up, I suspect from spending weeks at a time not moving. The exhaust is as rusty as hell and on a roadtrip it split.
It has cost me more in repairs over 4000 miles than my Mondeo, which is used all the time and has double the mileage, has in 87,000 miles. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
