Quad bike bought online

Options
My husband bought me a 125cc quad ATV from a seller on eBay to make life easier at the Stables for me .
It turns out after him spending 4 hours putting it together (arrived on a pallet in several bits) it is not fit for purpose because it can't get up the hill or through the mud in my horses field with me weighing 8 1/2 stone on it bearing in mind It is designed to take up to 16 stone so I'm well under its max weight. We want to send it back but its obviously been tried out. What are our rights under the distance seller rules please?

None really. Is it fit for farm work? I really do doubt it as the farms use high powered 400-600 cc quads, a 125 is woefully underpowered for what you need.

Sorry but you get what you pay for and a cheap Chinese self build quad is not really fit for anything other than a bit fun.

Please link us to the Ebay listing and we will see if there is any thing that you can use against them.
  • At only 125cc, it will really only be suitable for children or adults riding on a fairly flat and fairly hard surface.

In all likelihood it will be a single cylinder four stroke engine with an auto gearbox and there is no way that this sort of engine could cope with soft muddy fields or hills with much of an incline.

What sort of stables do you have?
Is it one for your own personal use only or do you run it as a business?
  • It's for my own personal use to get from the bottom of the field to the top etc carrying hay and feed
  • So it sounds like sadly you are saying we won't be able to get any kind of refund

can you link the item yuo bought please.

    if its something like this

    Cheap Quad

then no, I don't think you have a leg to stand on.

When you say its not fit for purpose, you are using it for a purpose that these "toy" quads are not designed for, and that's why they are cheaper than the £3k+ utility quads.
  • Sadly does not sound like the right spec quad for farmwork or carrying haybails
  • This site as I'm a new user won't let me paste a link so here is the eBay item number

On that advert, it doesn't say what it can and cannot do.

I know nothing about quad bikes, but I would like to think that it could take an adult up and down rough terrain! Particularly at that price!!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • I agree pinkshoes, I know it's not a full on farm quad but I don't need that as it's just me and a haynets or buckets of feed but it's still not cheap
