Hi does anyone know of a company that sells thick cotton percale sheets, I'm battling bedtimes due to being of that age
and keep dreaming of a cold crisp bedsheets like you used to get in the 60's/70's but everything seems to be high thread count soft cotton or polycotton and so thin and light you can see your hand through it. Any ideas?

If you Google "suppliers of percale cotton sheets" you will find a number of options , including those who sell those thick crispy hotel type sheets which take about ten days to dry!
I inherited some from my mother. They just won't wear out. We only use them in winter because they're the equivalent of a lightweight duvet on their own. Expect good quality ones to be expensive!1 -
I have tried white company, dunelm Mill and a couple from Amazon suppliers, all stating hotel quality but all lightweight, I'm guessing they are just not made anymore as tastes have changed to softer lighter materials.0

Thats a pity if its true but it may be that our national sleeping habits have changed over the years. When I was a child everybpdy slept in chilly bedrooms under blankets and you needed several of them in winter to stay warm. Now most people use duvets, often with no upper sheet so thicker sheets are no longer necessary in centrally heated homes.1

You could check out the textile sellers at antique fairs as they often bring them over from France.1

I was looking at the 1000 thread sheets on Cotton King. I would think they must be fairly thick. A single flat double sheet coats £83 !!
It might be worth contacting them to ask if they could let you have a tiny sample of this fabric.0 -
They just twist the threads together so makes a softer tougher fabric usually because it shorter thread I'm told this is due to the quality of conventional grown cotton with all the messing about they've done with it higher yield but not so strong, anybody tried hemp linen? Price makes my eyes water I will have a look at french/ Germany supplier's they tend to be a bit more utilitarian on the basics0

I know some on here have used commercial suppliers.
Just Linen / Dawsons - they are the same site, it seems, have some very good bed linen. I have used them and think it very good.0 -

Well I must definitely hang on to my REALLY THICK sheets inherited from my mum then if it would seem they're not longer available or manufactured to this high quality. £130 in a John Lewis ??? Unbelievable!!
Perhaps I should have them valued on the Antiques Roadshow. They've rarely been used. They almost crackle like brown paper wrapping when I try to put them on the bed every winter.1 -
I have bought 100% cotton sheets from Aldi in the past and found them nice and cool. They don't sell them all the time and you need to check them before you buy, to make sure they are not the smooth almost satiny finish ( is that percale? ) which I personally dislike intensely.
Ikea sell sheets that are a cotton and lyocell mix. The blurb says : "The lyocell/cotton blend absorbs and draws moisture away from your body and keeps you dry all night long."

They are also selling a linen duvet set which I am quite tempted by. Though I haven't actually come across it in person to check the quality of the fabric.

TKMax often have high end bed linen in their stores. Might be worth a look.0
