Can't access money left by family member

Hi,

To cut a long stort short, I was told that I was left a lump sum of money from a late family member who sadly passed away. I was told I could access this money at the age of 21, I'm now 22 and I haven't received the money or even any paperwork. I've been told it's because the age has now been moved to 24 (interest rates?) Now I'm not sure the rules of this account or if that's even possible, family are very unhelpful I can't speak to anyone about it, all I know is maybe it was left in a trust fund? Is it possible it's moved to 24? How can I go about getting some paperwork that this account is set up or the money is even still there? Or do I need to get a copy of the will?

Thanks in advance for any help because I'm really in the dark and I just want to know it's there.

I think you will need to get a copy of the will since you hae so little information.

Get a copy of the Will. https://www.gov.uk/search-will-probate
Read that and it will state who the Executor was.
The Executor is the person who should know everything as they will have had to do it all.
  • Thank-you both for your replies, I will get a copy of the will but I'm also struggling with that, can't find it on the gov.uk link, can I get a will from a different website?

If the will has been admited to probate it will be there. The money is payable at age 18 regardless of what the will says.
  • I still can't find it, but I know other people have received their share of the will so it must of been admitted to probate? I've search all possibilities, only thing I can think of now is searching for it in her maiden name?

Who told you this? Is that person the executor?

  • No a family member told me this, again not sure I can trust them.
  • Who was the executor?
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...
  • I don't know who the executor is, really struggling to find the will too, not sure what to do.

Worth a try. Or was she commonly called by another first name? Not sure it would make a difference, but it might. (Have a friend called Joan but her name is actually Bernadette!)
