Car insurance

Hi there I'm new I am having a bit of a problem. I am 27 with 4 years no claims bonus but only held a full license for 3 years as I accumulated 1 year on a provisional license. I have proof of no claims which states 4 years. I am having the problem of having no claims of 4 years but most insurances put the price up as I only have 3 years license. I have done a quote for 3 years license and 4 years no claims and quotes come back at around £1600- £1800 and make, model, engine size of car doesn't make much difference, but if I fill out I have had license for 4 years (in which technically I have) and 4 years no claims the price splits in half to around £700 - £900 which is a lot better I really need advice where I stand I have even tried it with just 3 years no claims and that still fetches price down it all seems to be the extra years no claims bonus.

You have not held the FULL licence for 4 years though. £1600 - £1800 with 3 years no claims at 27? Choosing the wrong cars?

Insurance for my little one was under £1000 for the first year and recently the 2nd year even though prices have increased.

  • I know I have only had a full license for 3 years but like I said I have 4 years no claims bonus with proof from my insurer. The make model of car doesn't seem to make a difference it cost me the same to insure a 1.0 Peugeot 206 as it would 1.8 for focus and between them two engines there's a big difference just an example
  • 206. There you go. Its too old.

The cheapest insurance i found was on a brand new car. Over 4 or 5 years old and the premiums increased.

3 years ago I purchased my 206; 20 at the time with 2 years NCD, and that was around £700 with Hastings? Still have it now, paying around £500p/a.

Are you living in London by any chance, or central to another large city? I struggle to think the car is the issue (unless it's the GTI 180 206 or similar spec)?

I think Aviva ask how long you have held a licence so they shouldn't have an issue with 4 years NCB
