Carpet colour for magnolia walls

I'm in the process of buying a new home and I need to decide what colour carpet to get. The walls will be painted magnolia (unless I can get the developer to paint them white) and I don't plan to repaint the walls for at least 2-3 years.
I'm thinking about possible getting oak wooden flooring in some of the rooms so the carpet may only be on the stairs and on the landing. However, if I don't go ahead with the wooden flooring the carpet will be throughout the whole house. In terms of furniture, nothing has been purchased however I'm likely to get a black or tan leather sofa.
Any suggestions?

Wooden floors can feel cold, be noisy and not wear well - furniture marks and such like,
Your walls will be coated with contractors obliterating emulsion. Great for filling imperfections and great for allowing moisture to dry out of the building process. Bad news for marking, and for quickly looking shabby. Consequently you may be decorating throughout sooner than you expect, especially when shrinkage and settlement are factored in.
You may want to re-think your plans?0 -

I understand the pro/cons with wooden flooring and I prefer the look/feel of it.
I've updated my original post. I intend to wait at least 2-3 years until I repaint to allow the developer to fix any snags and for shrinkage/settlement to take place so that I can fill any cracks before repainting. Also, I'm thinking about possibly asking the developer to paint the walls white instead of magnolia so that when it comes to repainting, I don't need a white base coat and can do two coats of the chosen colours.0
