Ireland Short-Term Vehicle Breakdown Cover

I've never taken a vehicle to Ireland before but am considering doing so - but the cost of breakdown cover is staggering.

For a two week policy the cost is greater than an annual policy covering the UK. I've tried my own car insurance provider and their breakdown cover quote was £60.

I'm wondering whether it's possible to buy a local breakdown policy in Ireland - would this work for a UK registered vehicle? Any other ideas would be great.

You may be able to buy Irish breakdown cover - but you'd almost certainly need to have an Irish home address, and if your car wasn't quickly fixable, it wouldn't be repatriated to the UK.

There are various European breakdown cover options available - different prices for different coverage, and if your car is older the options shrink massively.

£60 for 2wk European breakdown cover isn't ridiculous.

Packaged bank accounts with European cover run at £10-£15 per month, though you'd have to check the terms and conditions for cover, so that it's relevant fro your circumstances, should be doable for say £30 though.
