Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I still feel very inspired to de-clutter this morning, so I'm going to buy a day bus ticket for about £4.50 and then use it to make lots of trips to and from and nearest charity shop. I want to get rid of the clothes I sorted out and also get rid of as many books that I don't love as possible
.
I'm dreading my mum's interment tomorrow and don't want to think about it too much, so I think this would be a good distraction and would stop me thinking about it so much. Not to mention emptying a load of plastic boxes which can then be used to bag up other things to go in the void.
Sadly DH finds it much harder to let clutter go than I do. For example he wants to keep the old car stereo and I cannot fathom why because I know we will never use it when we have a much better one now. In fact I live with three hoarders. It's only DS3 who seems to share my enthusiasm for de-cluttering. But if DH won't get rid of clutter I can at least box it up and get it put in the void so that it's not lying around looking messy and hard to clean. So I need to empty some of the boxes by taking my books to the charity shop.
I'll treat myself to a Costalot latte once I'm done. I also need to put some laundry on to wash, clean out the furry moron and hopefully clean the bath and shower.
So a busy day, but the house should look a lot better at the end of it.

That's how I feel too. Very empowered when I do it, and then determined that I will stick to everything.
The weight is unlikely to get put back on whilst I am restricted, but I am also aware that I don't want to assume it is permanent as some of them could be reversed. I think I will just go through them one by one and keep the newest one, but bin the old ones.
I cleared out little ones wardrobe earlier in the week, and that made her wardrobe look so much better, and I felt better doing it. I think I might make it a Sunday job this week.
Little one is back in school next week, but I am still off. x
That sounds like a good plan.

Don’t sell your achievements short. If you do, other people will believe it and join in.
I think you’ve achieved so much, give yourself a big pat on the back
Thank you INOD. It's true that permanent income is very valuable and I do have strong hopes that I'll get more hours eventually. I work a lot more hours at the school than I currently get paid for and I think they do appreciate that

Thanks Nicnak. It is difficult de-cluttering a hoarder child, especially when mine are in their twenties .

I'm a shocking hoarder, so I'm always full of admiration for people who actually get on with decluttering. Well done, you.
I'm sorry that with the interment coming up, it seems a never-ending list of horrid things to do, that nevertheless have to be done. It will be pretty well the last thing you can do FOR your Mum, rather than about her. I wrote a poem I read at my father's interment, it was for me rather than anyone else, and it made me happy to read it out loud. We also put flowers from his favourite rose on top of the urn, so he was with my mother and the Peace rose - more I could not ask for.
I hope the day goes as well as it can - I'll be thinking of you xx
The Tribute
I had thought to lay out his life
in such finely-chased words
that all who heard would prize
their sorrow in remembering.
I had not thought to reveal
treasure so radiant, so rare,
that words seem but
insubstantial gloss. They lie
like autumn leaves,
covering the tilth of years
with wounded colours.
No melody, nor tapestry,
nor scented Peace weighs
more than ash.
All I have are words that weep,
And memories that mourn.0 -
Thank you Elizabeth
. That's a lovely poem.

Well, seven bus rides later :rotfl: I've got rid of three rucksacks and three carrier books full of clothes and books. Mostly books
. Having got rid of probably a hundred books, I allowed myself to buy a hardback by one of my favourite authors in the charity shop for £1.99 :T.
I've already filled up the rucksack and one carrier bag with more books. Space is appearing in the living room bookcase and my bedroom floor which is good, and the charity shop were delighted. So positive all round :T.
I'm going to do the same thing on a couple of days next week, so that I can go back to school with a much less cluttered house.
